What is a Ceilidh?
Traditionally a Ceilidh is a
celebratory gathering with music and dancing and as such is similar to an
American Barn Dance. Drop of a Hat play traditional Irish, Scottish and
American Old Time tunes for a wide variety of traditional dances. Most of the
dance steps are simple and easily
learnt, but since most people don't know them, Drop of a Hat uses a caller
to give instructions. Before the dance starts, the caller will talk you through it
whilst you walk the steps, then prompt you throughout the dance to keep you in
the right place. The mix is excellent for weddings, parties, birthdays,
anniversaries, fund raising and similar occasions since it ensures a wide range of ages and
abilities will have fun together.

Other things to consider
We are fully equipped with a sound system requiring only a 240V supply. All our
equipment is regularly tested and has a current PAT certificate and we are fully
covered by our public
liability insurance as well.
We can work in village or church halls,
marquees, pub function rooms and the like, with or without a stage. We
need about an hour to set up our stuff and do a sound check before the dancing
starts.
Bookings
We are based in Derbyshire and accept bookings within that area, South
Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.

Please pass on our thanks to the group for
making the wedding ceilidh such a success. Many of our guests commented on how much
they enjoyed the event. The music was exactly what we wanted and
we loved the way the band continued to play in the background between
dances. The caller was also superb. We will certainly recommend you to our
friends.
